GSoC '17 : Selected projects announced
Selected projects and students from all organisations announced today!
I haven't yet blogged about GSoC or any other open source contributions here yet, so this is the first one now that the selected proposals for Google Summer of Code 2017 were announced today.
So from this week until August, all students selected for GSoC are supposed to be writing a weekly update on their work with their organisations.
Intro to Google Summer of Code
According to the program website:
Google Summer of Code is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work with an open source organization on a 3 month programming project during their break from school.
Well GSoC is basically a 3-4 month programme that is kind of an internship from home hosted by Google for which around 1000 students are selected every summer to work on a project they proposed for their respective open-source organisations.
So I've been actively contributing to Drupal since end of last year which includes being active in the issue queues, writing patches, providing patch reviews and several other things. I applied to Drupal as my mentoring organisation. Drupal is the largest open source community on the face of the internet and it has of a lot of helpful and amazing people who are always active and welcoming new contributors unlike other organisations that I contributed to in the past.
The project that I proposed, titled "Client side encryption for files to implement a zero knowledge system" is related to cryptography and encryption, I'll write a more detailed blog post about the project and anyway, there is the proposal there are going to be weekly updates on the progress on the project.
And yes, my proposal got selected and I'll be working on this project over this summer.
